Here are a few thoughts about my experience observing and working with preschool as well as school age children--and I've thrown in a few extraneous events as well for your viewing pleasure. :o

I had a fun morning of observation.(blog due 12/3)
I've been meaning to ask you this regarding your name Do you have a preference as to being james or jim (I know that they are the same)? I absolutely love eric carle he is one of my favorite children's illustators and writers. It seems as if the class you observe is always doing something fun or unique, especially the yoga.
I grew up being called Jim. In the last few years I'm Jimmy or Uncle Jimmy, but I'm usually James during my summer jobs because that's what's etched into my name tag. :-) How about you? Can you reveal your name???? ;-)
The teacher I'm observing does do fun stuff for sure and she's very demonstrative and expressive in her manner. I'm pretty much the same way. I don't like a lot of structured activities, which can work if there is good planning, and I like it that she quickly adapts and changes, or even jettisons, activities that might not be working as expected.
Yesterday we had an impromptu disco/cha cha/hootenanny party on the carpet. The teacher put on a CD; the kids put on "fancy clothes" and we all danced like mad. The musical instruments were passed out and we banged on those for a while; then we had solos--kids got up and sang their favorite song. It was hugely fun and wildly silly, right up my alley as they say! :-)
Janet for some reason it will not display my name, but by process of elimination you have a total of three group members so its me. lol (jk) That is the class I wanna be in: music and movement.:) I can totally relate to getting attached to the children and having a "favorite" student, which is something I try not to do but it was so hard not to find this kid so adorable. I have learned so much over the course of this class that I feel well prepared to encounter the preschool world. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is not going to see eye to eye on all issues. I think that we all respected each other while stating our views points. And that is the thing I believe matters most. Good luck to you and it was nice getting to read your post and finding out more about you.
I see you wrote that LAUSD is no longer having Pre-K classrooms. Thats kind of weird because I work for LAUSD and in the school I work at has a Pre-K class, well, actually two because there is an AM and a PM class. So maybe they cancelled Pre-K classes in certain dristicts only. What disctricts do you work with??? My district it District 6 and we have a Pre-K class on our campus.
Anywho, I, just like you, got attached to two adorable children. One of them is absolutely adorable! I'm in love with her. She was aware of my prescence and would smile at me a lot. I melted everytime she did it and so I think I might go to volunteer :).
